Tobacco River |
Tobacco River is located on Lac LaBelle-Gay Rd going Northeast as a person leaves Gay. It is a very nice river that flows into Lake Superior and it is home to Brook Trout and a fall run of Steel Head. The river is fun to wade, but it does get wide and deep in spots.
Steel Dam on Salmon Trout River |
Salmon-Trout River is located west of Houghton and it is home to one of the only remaining steel dams in the country. The dam creates a great spot for fall fishing as Steel Head make their runs. There is also brook and splake present. Carp also make a run in the spring if you are interested in that. The lake on the back side of the dam also has a large presents of fish which include perch, pike, and trout.
Dam on Otter River |
When you get out to fish at the Otter River dam, you will notice the nice bridge that goes across the river. The bridge has guardrails so that you can fish into the middle of the river. There is a boat launch present, where you can head up the river to Otter Lake. Also, there is fish ladder under the dam so that fish can still make their natural run up stream. I know there is Perch, Pike, and Bass around the dam. If you happen to unload a small boat at the dam, the lake hold several other species like walleye and other panfish.
Lake Fanny Hooe |
Lake Fanny Hooe is one of the few West-East lakes the follows the Keweenaw shoreline. This lake is just east of Copper Harbor and boasts a wide variety of fish. I have only fished it once and not had any luck but I know there are very nice walleye present.
Spring flood on Graive Rot River |
Graive Rot River lies a few miles away from the Salmon-Trout River and is quite tucked away in the wilderness. There is not much available about this river, but I know there are nice trout present.
Copper Harbor |
Copper Harbor is a beautiful harbor and a major tourist attraction all year round. So far I have only had the chance to fish the harbor one time, but there is supposed to be a decent amount of splake present in the harbor. These are very delicious to eat.
Setting Sun on Rice Lake |
Rice Lake is located northeast of Lake Linden and is home to some nice sized pike and walleye. It can be a hard lake to fish, however, because of the shallow depth that is present across much of the lake.
Lac LaBelle below Mt. Bohemia, Deer Lake in distance. |
Lac La Belle is a great lake to fish and is home to some of my most fond fishing memories here in the Keweenaw. There is an abundance of pike and walleye. It seems to be rarely fished though, especially in the winter.
Falls on Eagle River |
Eagle River is located a few miles north of Calumet, Michigan. This river is located in a small town which is quite the tourist attraction as well as a home to many deer through out the Winter months. I haven't had the chance to fish this river before.
Emily Lake is located near Twin Lakes in Houghton County. It is a nice quiet lake situated near a campground. Great for Kayaking and Canoeing. I have caught tiny bluegill and bass in this lake.
